Safety Leadership at Work Program Queensland leads the way

Much has been written about safety leadership and safety culture and the possible influence that both may have to improve health and safety outcomes in the workplace.  In Queensland the Workplace Health and Safety Electrical Safety Office Workers' Compensation Regulator is expanding the topic with its Safety Leadership at Work Program. Although the program is designed to improve safety culture and contribute to reducing work-related injuries and fatalities in Queensland workplaces, it may assist safety leaders in other states and territories.

A safety leader can be anyone. Safety leadership exists at all levels of an organisation and across all industries. The common objective for safety leaders is to create safer and more productive workplaces.

The program facilitates safety leaders at all levels and allows them to have the opportunity to learn from others, develop their safety leadership skills and build a positive safety culture in their workplace via case studies and networking.

The program is free to join. Members can access:

  • webinars, forums and safety leadership events (with special membership rates);
  • films, benchmarking tools and case studies;
  • updates on leading industry practices;
  • direct access to business leaders to apply their learnings directly to your own business; and
  • networking opportunities to explore solutions to common issues and influence your industry's safety culture.

The program is supported online and features a wide range of tools and resources including:

  • Safety leadership and culture model;
  • Safety climate and safety culture;
  • The LEAD Model;
  • Safety leadership in small businesses fact sheet;
  • Organisational Systems Benchmarking Tool;
  • Safety leadership updates;
  • Stories; and
  • Case studies.
