HAZCON is proud to be an Associate Member of the Demolition Contractors' Association Victoria Ltd (DCAV). Founded in 1988, DCAV promotes the highest levels of conduct and practice in the Victorian demolition and Asbestos Removal industry.

Its members are industry leaders and membership is restricted to those enterprises able to demonstrate compliance in the following:
International standards in Quality, Safety and Environment; Ethical compliance; and Professional Standards compliance.

Demolition work is considered high risk under Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) and Work Health and Safety (WHS) legislation across Australia so is subject to specific regulatory control.

In Victoria, the new compliance code: Demolition was issued in May 2018. The main points covered are as follows:

  • Purpose, scope and application;
  • Overview of the risk management process;
  • Planning demolition work;
  • Controlling risks in demolition work;
  • Demolition methods; and
  • Demolition of special structures.
  • The new compliance code also contains eight appendices that cover the following:
  • The Victorian OHS compliance framework;
  • Demolition plan;
  • Engineering investigation considerations;
  • Health and Safety Coordination Plan template;
  • Safe Work Method Statement template;
  • Associated documents; and
  • Checklist for safe use of plant for demolition works.
