Revised Victorian Dangerous Goods (Storage and Handling) Regulations 2022

Posted by Andy Perry on 5 December 2022

WorkSafe Victoria (WorkSafe), in consultation with key stakeholders, has prepared the proposed Dangerous Goods (Storage and Handling) Regulations 2022 (proposed Storage and Handling Regulations) and associated Regulatory Impact Statement (RIS) on behalf of the Victorian Government.

The proposed Storage and Handling Regulations set out the legal duties for manufacturers and suppliers of dangerous goods or suspected dangerous goods, and for occupiers of premises where dangerous goods are stored or handled. They help ensure the health and safety of people, property and the environment in the manufacture, storage, transfer, use, handling, sale, and disposal of dangerous goods.

The proposed Storage and Handling Regulations will replace the Dangerous Goods (Storage and Handling) Regulations 2012, expired on 27 November 2022.

You will note some minor changes with terminology, obligations, and notification obligations. For example: risks to persons engaged by the occupier and reduced timeframes from 5 to 2 years for maximum quantities held exceeding threshold quantities.
