The purpose of this course is to provide HSRs an opportunity to revisit aspects of the HSR Initial OHS Training Course and refresh their knowledge on the topics listed in the learning outcomes below.
The vision at WorkSafe Victoria is to see Victorian workers returning home safe every day. WorkSafe regard Health and Safety Representative’s (HSR’s), together with employers, managers, supervisors and employees as making a vital contribution to making this happen.
Under the OHS Act 2004 (section 67), all elected HSRs and deputy HSRs, after completing an initial course of training, have an entitlement for each year they hold office to attend a WorkSafe-approved HSR refresher OHS training course. An employer, if requested, must allow the HSR/Deputy HSR to attend on paid time, pay the cost of the course and any other associated costs. Section 67 also allows HSRs to choose the course, in consultation with their employer.
Before your course commences
You’ll receive a welcome email with a link to your 
Learner Portal. You’ll be asked to complete a short onboarding form so we can finalise your enrolment.
On the Day, there is nothing you need to bring with you, as all resources (full catering and training materials) will be provided.

- Experiences as an HSR;
- Explaining the term ‘reasonably practicable’;
- Issue resolution;
- Risk management overview;
- Types of workplace hazards including psychosocial hazards;
- Determining risk levels and controls;
- Employer/employee duty of care;
- The importance of consultation and reporting;
- Incident management and investigation;
- Latest developments and initiatives in OHS; and
- WorkSafe guidance material and website.
All HSR training courses reference the OHS Act 2004 and cover the obligations of key duty holders, HSR powers and entitlements, hazard identification and controls, consultation, issue resolution and Provisional Improvement Notices (PINS)/Direction to cease work. The course is interactive, activity based and uses video clips from WorkSafe Victoria.

In order to identify individual learners’ requirements please bring to our attention any candidate that has any needs such as; literacy, access or, medical restrictions so arrangements can be made prior to course commencement.

Privacy policy and access
HAZCON is committed to protecting employee, client and participant privacy and confidentiality in line with State and Federal Privacy legislation. Except as required under the Data Provision Requirements 2012, Government Contracts or by law, information about students will not be disclosed to a third party without the consent of the individual.
On successful completion and assessed as competent you will receive a Certificate of Attendance issued by HAZCON Pty Ltd for “HSR Refresher OHS Training Course”.

Please note:

If you can for any reason you can no longer attend, please let us know as soon as possible. Our Terms and Conditions allow you full flexibility; you can change or cancel your booking free of charge, up to 7 days before your course starts. After this date, transfers can be made once a late notice fee (50% of the course fee) has been settled. If you need to cancel within 7 days of the course date, you are still eligible to apply for a 50% refund of your course fee. If a participant has not informed us of their absence prior to the day and does not attend, we will make every effort to contact them, as well as the person who made the booking or is responsible for payment (e.g. an employer or manager). In this case, the full course fee will be forfeited.
