More information

Professional workers in construction, renovation, and demolition should be aware of potential asbestos exposure risks in older structures. The removal of asbestos requires specialised training and this Unit of Competency is essential for anyone engaged in the removal of more than ten square metres of non-friable asbestos.

Our course is specifically designed to equip you with the knowledge and practical skills required to identify, prepare for, and safely remove non-friable asbestos containing materials (ACMs).  *Non-friable asbestos is also commonly referred to as bonded or Class B asbestos.   We include realistic work scenarios and simulation activities, and allow students to take a hands-on, practical approach to their learning.  The content is delivered by our experienced Trainers who are engaging, encouraging, and highly regarded industry professionals.  Please note we do not use any asbestos containing material during our training.  Regardless of the project scale, this professional development course offers critical insights into workplace safety and risk mitigation strategies.

To enrol in the CPCCDE3014 Remove non-friable asbestos training course, you must have:

1) Completed Year 10 or be more than 17 years of age.

2) Sufficient English language skills, which allow you to communicate clearly with our Trainer and other students and perform written tasks.

3) Attained one of the following Unit of Competencies (commonly known as a “White Card”):

CPCCOHS1001A Work safely in the construction industry (issued after 11 May 2009);

CPCCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry; or

CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

If you currently do not (or are unsure if you) meet the prerequisites, please call us on 1800 429 266. One of our friendly team members can help clarify matters and discuss your options.

Before your training begins, you’ll receive a welcome email with a link to your Learner Portal. You’ll be asked to complete a short onboarding form and upload the following documents so we can verify your eligibility and finalise your enrolment:

  1. A copy of your Work safely in the construction industry Unit of Competency (commonly known as a “White Card”)
  2. A copy of your photo identification (front and back)
  3. Your Unique Student Identifier (USI). If you don’t yet have a USI or need to retrieve it, you can do so via usi.gov.au. Additional information about USIs is available in the USI Provider Factsheet.

What to bring on the day

On the day of your training, please bring the following items for sighting and use during practical components:

    • Your photo ID
    • A half-face respirator mask. Trainees are encouraged to bring their own respirators, as a fit check will form part of the practical assessment.

According to the WorkSafe Victoria Removing Asbestos in Victoria Compliance Code (section 373), “the minimum recommended respiratory protective equipment RPE for this task is a non-disposable half-face respirator with a P1 filter or P2 filter.” Appendix E further explains that “disposable half-face respirators are not recommended for ongoing asbestos removal work.”

    • A fit check is included as an assessment component of the course; students are encouraged to bring their own respirators to the training

To successfully complete this course, you’ll satisfactorily complete three assessment tasks which combine practical demonstrations and knowledge-based questions. These assessments are designed to reflect real-world asbestos removal activities, helping you show that you can apply your skills safely and confidently. Our trainers are supportive and can adapt knowledge questions to suit your individual learning needs, ensuring you have every opportunity to succeed.

As some practical assessments involve physical activity, you’ll need to be fit and able to perform basic construction tasks as part of the training and assessment process.

If you need extra support on the day, you’ll be given up to two reassessment attempts to demonstrate your competence.

If competency isn’t achieved after two reassessment attempts, students are welcome to use our appeals process, as outlined in the Student Handbook. This process ensures all outcomes are fair, consistent, and transparent.
