Asbestos Air Monitoring

Air monitoring is required under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations 2007 for all friable asbestos removals. While air monitoring is not required for non-friable asbestos removals, it is highly recommended for removals undertaken indoors or in high profile locations.

The internal procedures of a number of organisations require air monitoring to be undertaken for all asbestos removal work.

HAZCON’s NATA Accredited Asbestos Laboratory provides a quality asbestos air monitoring service, using our own NATA approved counters and signatories.

A HAZCON consultant will attend the site to undertake air monitoring. Samples collected are then analysed to determine the quantity of asbestos fibres in the air.

Air monitoring may be undertaken during an asbestos removal to determine the presence of asbestos fibres outside the removal area or at the conclusion of an asbestos removal, to determine whether the area is safe to reoccupy.

Air monitoring may also be undertaken as general workplace surveillance to determine whether there is any release of asbestos fibres from in situ asbestos containing materials.
